With Distant, Ava Valianti Turns Growing Pains into Pop Gold

From performing at iconic venues like The Bitter End and Charlie's Kitchen to opening for renowned artists like Jessica Baio and Lucy Kaplansky, fifteen-year-old singer/songwriter Ava Valianti is establishing herself as a serious force to be reckoned with.

She released her debut single, Bubble Wrap, in October of 2023, and since then, five more tunes have followed (along with a rather substantial fanbase, too).

Her most recent offering is a bright and sunny little indie-pop anthem called Distant, and it's a track I'm honoured to introduce you to today.

Set against a vibrant and upbeat melody, Ava explores that coming-of-age moment when you realise that, essentially, life moves on without fanfare.

"Distant is about the silent sadness that comes with losing someone without a fight - just life pulling you apart," says the musician. "I wrote it when I realized that sometimes, no matter how much you care, people drift away".

The perfect blend of bittersweet realisation and catchy catharsis, Distant is a goodbye wrapped in a piece of sonic chewing gum you keep replaying just to taste the sadness one more time. Pure genius!
