TV Blackout’s The Car Tune Steers You Into a Hazy Blues Landscape
Serving as the first of three songs from their upcoming EP, The Car Tune is a hazy, bluesy, and wonderfully inventive new offering from Michigan-based trio TV Blackout. A re-worked version of a track previously penned by the band's vocalist, Brian Ross, The Car Tune has now been given a new lease of life.
Phil Rinke and John Young's dynamic rhythmic section is seamlessly layered into the updated soundscape, and there's also a guest saxophone appearance courtesy of Chris St. Leger. Adding what the outfit has labelled "the smoky bar aesthetic," Leger's saxophone performance injects the perfect amount of late-night allure into the heart of the song.
Not content with just being sonically eclectic, The Car Tune is also a seriously clever piece of storytelling. Its lyrics toggle between the memory of an old flame and two Buick LeSabres, with every line referencing that double entendre.
An instant classic as far as I'm concerned, TV Blackout's latest single sets the stage for a hugely promising EP. And, while no official date has been provided, I'll do my best to let you know when it drops. I get the feeling it'll be worth the wait.
