Cinematic, Tender, and Timeless - Ian Rae Drifts Into the Ether on Sleeping Angel

Predominantly inspired by the music of Joe Hisaishi and Studio Ghibli, Sleeping Angel is the wonderfully delicate and emotive new album from Kenley-based composer Ian Rae

A six-track instrumental offering of deeply cinematic and dreamlike soundscapes, it invites the listener to pause, breathe, and drift away.

Serving as the follow-up to last year's hugely successful record, Goodbye Little Friend, Sleeping Angel feels destined to match - if not quietly surpass its predecessors' triumphs.

The album opener is also its title track, an absolutely beautiful piece composed in memory of Ian's little dog Tallulah. An echo to his previous record, it's a profoundly moving start to proceedings.

Don't Forget to Blow a Kiss follows Sleeping Angel, and Rae is quick to immerse you once again in gentle and floaty textures, before Sleepy Forest showcases another aspect to the artist's sonic landscape.

Not Another Song, Where the Cold Wind Blows, and Round and Around make up the rest of Ian's latest album, and they're three pieces that I think you should take in and absorb on your own. They're sure to mean something different and personal to each listener, and that's where their voiceless magic lies.
